Second Sunday Brunch

Gathering around the table is a sacred form of embodied worship, communal abundance, and abiding in God’s love with others.

The Why

Sharing a meal together is a sacred practice. Multiple times in scripture, something is revealed through the process of eating–from the garden in Genesis, to the Passover meal in Exodus, to Ezekiel’s scroll, to Jesus’ last supper, to the disciples on the road to Emmaus, to the book of Revelation. Eating is part of being in community, of storytelling and remembering, of opening ourselves up to understanding and wisdom. We were designed to need nourishment as whole integrated beings, which is why sharing a meal intentionally within a community is so profoundly transformative. To honor this practice as a regular rhythm, we gather for brunches in various homes as a form of liturgy on the second Sunday of each month.

The How

Our leadership team thoughtfully gathers everyone into small groups and coordinates with those who are willing to host. We intentionally keep folks with the same group for three months so they can nurture their relationships and build on each gathering.

We value these Sundays as vital to our formation. Rather than being considered “off” weeks, Second Sundays are coveted times of worship through food and connection. We start brunch at 10:30am, just like a regular liturgy. Communion is part of the gathering, bringing this sacred practice into the intimate setting of our homes.

No fancy, extravagant parties–just a simple potluck where everyone brings something to share, loaves and fishes are multiplied, and the community is knit more closely together.
